PRE-CONFERENCE THINK TANK - preparation for the Fashion Colloquium

Master students of the academic partner institutes are invited to the pre-conference think tank in preparation for the Fashion Colloquium. This think tank offers an in-depth introduction into the main themes of the parallel sessions and into the lectures of the keynote speakers. 

As an interdisciplinary group of students we will all prepare questions that we can ask the speakers during the parallel sessions at the conference.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to ask your questions to the keynotes in person during an interview that will be recorded on video by film maker Thijs Adriaans.

In the morning of 23 May, we will start with a conversation on the changing meanings of ‘luxury’. Based on that discussion, we will explore and critically reflect on the main themes of the parallel sessions, such as: emotional connectivity, emerging materials, ecosystems, slowness and human values, embodied research, and social responsible businesses.

In the afternoon of 23 May, we will reflect on the presentations of the keynote speakers, such as David Bollier, Kristine Harper, Orsola de Castro, and Otto von Busch. We will prepare questions that you could personally ask these keynote speakers on video.

Fashion Colloquium: 31 May – 1 June, 2018

On May 31 and June 1, the two-day conference ‘Fashion Colloquium: Searching for the New Luxury’ takes place in Arnhem. More than 40 international researchers, creative practitioners and keynote speakers will present their research on themes such as new materials, design for closed loops, aesthetic sustainability and emotional connectivity, redefining value systems, new business models and forms of organization, and the importance of agency in moving towards a more resilient future. We will engage in conversations on questions such as: how can we activate the power of fashion – highlighting the role of design, imagination and aesthetics – and move towards more resilient futures and equitable societies? How can we envision and create an alternative and more engaged future of fashion that does more justice to fashion’s human dimension?
